Yum Yum Cha Cha!

Lunar New Year is upon us in a few days! Are you ready to welcome the year of the Water Tiger? For a lot of you, this may not mean anything—for me too, if I’m being honest—but for a lot others, this may be a time for excitement. I kind of want to join in on the excitement too, so if you’ll allow me, I’d like to travel back in time and offer you an on-theme post. These photos were shot long ago during Christmas—with my being under the weather but determined to enjoy a little quality time with my siblings. It will feature a hidden gem near our home, with a unique selection of menus as well, so come along to discover with us!

Signature dish: Biang-Biang Noodles

 Yeemcha

This restaurant first came to my attention through Instagram and I was smitten by the space straight away. It’s probably no secret to my closest circles that I see places to eat by their interior designs, before I even take a peek at their menu—and this was no exception. My siblings and I decided to pay this place a visit for our Christmas date—we don’t celebrate the holiday, but it was the one day we were all free. The place was as charming as I had imagined—I mean, look at those Cola crate makeshift-stools!—but I was even more pleasantly surprised by their wide array of beverages and distinct selection of cuisines. Their signature dish is called Biang-Biang Noodles, which are real thick and wide for noodles—but really good, especially with their specialty chili oil.

Their beverages are also hard to beat, with a unique selection of signature drinks. I even ordered drinks twice, since I wanted to try as many drinks as possible while I was there. They have so many tea options as well—which is very rare these days, since the beverage menu tends to be dominated either by coffee, soda or alcohol. I tried their best-selling English Fog—sooo good served warm—and Lemon Oolong—absolutely refreshing! My sister opt for Passionate Blue, which was so cool and tastes really nice as well.

And if their uniqueness hasn’t really impressed you so far, they also have a signature dessert called Bolobao. Now, this dish is unlike anything I’ve ever seen—the closest thing I can think of is the typical Japanese Melonpan (メロンパン), but equipped with fillings. Their original version actually comes with butter filling, but they also offer five other options. We wanted to try the Matcha and Choco fillings too, yet they ran out, so we settled for the Original and Pineapple Jam. The bread itself is lined with sugar coating on top, so we agreed that a more savoury filling—like butter or cheese or some other—is probably a better option to balance the taste. Needless to say, we were stuffed when we were done with the place.

Signature dessert: Bolobao with various fillings

December was a tremendously hectic month for me—so much so that I was practically burning out and harbouring resentment for my work. Needless to say, it wasn’t healthy and has hindered me to connect with people in my personal life, including my siblings. When I worked from home, I would have the chance to grab dinner together with them. We would catch up on our activities of the day—or week—and shared laughter. But, since coming back to the office and having to work overtime for 3 out of 4 weeks, I almost never had the chance to even catch them awake. This was a much-needed quality time that I was looking forward to, so sickness be damned!

Hope this Lunar New Year could also be a chance for you to catch up and reconnect with the important people in your life!
