We may not be aware of it at the moment—or, by this point, we really can’t escape it—but history is currently being made. Right now we’re living in that little black smudge in the midst of human history, where things seem rather bleak and uncertain. I’m sure we’re all feeling it too, right? Frankly, as I’m writing this post, I’m not feeling the most cheerful. If anything, it feels like a gaping hole in my chest just blew open—something heartbreaking recently happened too.
Are you as scared as I am? Not because I think this will last for ever and ever, but because I’m not sure how much we can salvage from the remains. Is there anything left worth keeping by the time it’s all done and dusted? What is humanity when too many are sacrificed in order to protect a select few? What is humanity when we’re all just looking out for ourselves in the end? Needless to say, it takes all I have to hold on to my last shred of positivity.

On a lighter note, I believe that this, too, shall pass. But while it’s here to stay, it’s created a new definition of ‘normal’ for us all. My favourite part—and one that is keeping me mostly sane in these trying times—is the aesthetics that has surfaced from the situation. There’s the physical-distanced weddings, faraway photoshoots, video-call talkshows, at-home graduations, homemade cooks and—best of all—the masked street style. Like hell if I’m going to miss out on the last one!
After seeing one of Jen’s recent posts, I quickly felt the urge to get myself a cute mask as well and create a whole outfit post around it—it’s nice to know I haven’t changed in 8 years. I found these ethical ones from Petanghari—with a matching black one for my beloved—and so close by too! Also, here’s another item from my latest Pithecanthropus archive sale haul—it’s the same pattern as the shorts, you may notice. I’ve been wearing both these items constantly.
Yes, I realise, there’s not much physical distancing going on here, but we’re VERY responsible about our hygiene inside and outside the home.
