Mix It Up a Notch: Vintage Striped Dress

If there is one dress in my entire wardrobe that shouts “perfect vintage dress,” it is definitely this striped beauty that I got at a flea market around 6 years ago—can you believe it? That is insane! It was love at first sight when I spotted this dress. The striped pattern reminds me of a dress once worn by the main character of my favourite manga series, so I was so thrilled when I first laid eyes on it. Not to mention the material turns out to be very 70s—not as modern as jersey but not as bulky as corduroy, you know. The cute button details lining the front part of the dress also caught my heart instantly.

In reality, this dress isn’t made for the warmer climate. The lining makes the dress pretty thick, so it’s easy to sweat under it a lot of the time—especially if you layer the dress with a jacket or cardigan. Nonetheless, I really like this dress still. It has a rather baggy cut, which makes it suitable for any of my body sizes—believe me, I’ve been going up and down the scale like nobody’s business—which is how it has stayed in my wardrobe for the past 6 years. The inner lining of this dress is now in tatters though, so I’ll have to fix it soon.

Style-wise, the dress’s simplicity makes it perfect to be matched with absolutely anything. As you can see here, I can wear it on its own, with any outerwear or skirts and it’ll look iconic either way. I’d definitely like to keep this dress forever. Just look at the potential! There’s probably a dozen different ways I can style this dress in the future—more skirts, perhaps?—so we’ll definitely see.
