Mix It Up a Notch: Tenun Denim Maxi

Back by popular demand, I give you Mix It Up a Notch! Been a hot minute, hasn’t it? I really thought I’d give up this segment of the blog, ’cause I didn’t think anyone cared, but you asked for it—so here it is! The last time I posted this series was 2019, so there’s definitely a lot of clothing pieces to catch up on. Also, this time I’d like to update previous remixes to let you know which clothing pieces I still wear to this day. Exciting, isn’t it? Since this series is of minor priority—and requires less work—, I thought it’d be a nice lil’ midweek treat for y’all. Well, if you care anyway.

Today’s piece is this gorgeous tenun ikat skirt handed down to me by my stepmom back in 2018. She said she would just share it with me and would wear it too from time to time, but ever since it came to be in my possession, she hasn’t worn it once (lol). This skirt is absolute perfection for me. It’s so roomy, facilitating my active movements, yet its maxi silhouette allows for a somewhat elegant look. The traditional motif is my favourite detail, although I’m not sure if it’s truly weaved or just borrows the motif. The denim fabric—or at least a fabric with pretty similar texture—also makes it feel unique. It creates this edge  to the look, while functionally it’s pretty breezy, despite its width and length.

I love wearing it with absolutely any kind of pieces, but due to its heavy pattern, I think a vibrant, solid-coloured top would be the best pairing for it. How else do you think I should style it next time?
