Happy Accidents

A relic from better times

Sometimes things don’t go according to plan and it could be a good thing—but sometimes it can bite you in the ass. The other day, my love Agung and I went out to Blok M to try a new eatery we just found out about. We were so excited to try it…only to reach the place and find it closed for the next 1 1/2 hours—and we were starving!

After walking around the area for around 15-30 minutes, and finding that a lot of restaurants in the area were also closed for the time being, we opted with something on the opposite end of the culinary spectrum. Don’t get me wrong, it was really good and filling, but we still felt a bitter taste of disappointment from a foiled plan afterwards.

On top of that, we finished eating pretty late, that only gave us a short window of time to take photos before the sun goes down—with no idea where to do it too, since the place was pretty crowded that day. May I just say that all this happened while we were logging around huge bags of used clothes to be dropped off at the Bumi Rumah Kita event? Needless to say, it was a pretty horrid day all around ⛈

However, there was a happy accident hidden beneath all this, namely, this ensemble. The dress belonged to my late grandmother—it got sent to our house on the event of her passing—and the hat was thrifted off a flea market several years ago—as you may have noticed if you’ve been reading this blog for a while. Yet, somehow, these two match perfectly in colour to create a feeling of an actual ensemble, when they’ve only met by chance. What’s most perfect is the fact that they match in style too—I feel a little like a background dancer in some preppy musical number.

As if that wasn’t enough, I’ve also got a matching mask and loafers too—I swear I didn’t plan any of this when I bought these individual items. Agung says, I look like a time traveller from the past, as my clothes don’t really fit the time period, I suppose. He also says, people who don’t know me might think I’m cosplaying—but you guys know this is just how I often dress. And I like it when things just naturally work out that way.
