Cnt-emplat/on*: Injuriespaper x Artisan Coffee

This year has been all about making new friends. And when said friends do something awesome, you show up to it. That’s what I did a couple weeks ago when I went back to Bandung yet again—you might have seen me do that a lot recently, as evidenced here, here, here, and here. Unlike the previous trips, this time I came to Bandung with a specific agenda: to see my friend Adit‘s exhibition opening. He collaborates with Artisan Coffee in Ciumbuleuit to create exclusive artwork for the space and turned it into an entire exhibition. The owner is an architect, leading the space to have a very quirky interior design and Adit’s job is to respond to it and translate it into a number of unique pieces. This is C*NT-EMPLAT/ION.

The Human Condition

C*NT-EMPLAT/ION is a collaborative exhibition between Injuriespaper and Artisan Coffee. There were a total of around 5 series of artworks being displayed, all created by my friend Adit, the man behind Injuriespaper. They mostly come in threes, to represent the past, present and future, born from an ongoing negotiation between personal memory, lived experience, and the subtle dynamics of space. It unfolds into a visual meditation on human existence, examining our relationship to the worlds we inhabit, the passage of time, and the fragile narratives that shape lives.

I love how he explored materials with each artwork, using a diverse range of materials, such as acrylic, skateboard decks, and framed print papers. According to the artist’s own words, “Each work occupies a space between introspection and observation, transforming everyday surfaces into sites of philosophical inquiry. Together, the exhibition offers an immersive encounter that encourages contemplation, positioning art not as a conclusion, but as an open-ended dialogue between experience, memory, and the ever-evolving condition of being human.”

The exhibition opening itself was pretty open to public. Since it’s a coffee shop, it wasn’t possible to close it off to regular customers, so there were a lot of people there who didn’t even come for the exhibition. That being said, Adit also invited a lot of his friends from Bandung’s hip-and-happening art industry to the event. It felt like such an adult experience, having to mingle and network with people from across creative fields. Ulfah, Adit’s girlfriend and an amazing photographer of her own right, was also there—we met before and I was so happy to see her again. Adit and Ulfah introduced me to a lot of their friends, including Jai (the social media specialist behind Artemedia) and Raquel (the illustrator behind Psychshroom). It was so fun making new friends from your new friends.

Let me talk a little bit about my friendship with Adit (and, by extension, Ulfah). Adit and I met through Threads, where everyone has an open call to connect with one another and Adit, specifically, was always on the lookout for visual artists to connect with. We started to get to know one another and talked pretty regularly. We discussed the possibility of a collaboration, and he told me about his collaborations with brands, restaurants and, eventually, this upcoming exhibition.

Adit has a very different visual approach to me, and I’ve always been very intrigue to pick his brain and see how it works—in comparison with my own that’s always been pretty literal in her thinking. We’ve discussed our collaboration in great lengths and I can’t wait to see how we’ll develop our ideas further and mix our contrasting styles together.

It’s through Adit that I got to know Ulfah as well. She’s such an incredible photographer with a really cool style, I absolutely adore her. We actually met in person before I even met Adit (lol), as she was in Jakarta for a job. She was so kind to help me with these photos and my vlog down below.

Contemplative Feelings

After hearing (or reading?) Adit talk about his preparation for this exhibition for at least a month, I was super psyched when it finally came to life. He’s been showing WIP sneak peeks to his close friends—including myself—and it’s got us pumped to see it in life size. Lo and behold, the end result did not disappoint. I love how his pieces compliment the space very nicely, bringing the entire coffee shop together. My favourite piece is the one called PHASES—which you can see right down below this paragraph. It just looks so surreal and a piece you can’t enjoy any other way. Also, if you come to the exhibition, you get to take home some really cute stickers by Injuriespaper (pictured below here). I’ve already stuck one of them to my laptop an another one on my planner.

I’m not sure until when C*NT-EMPLAT/ION will be available to visit, but probably 13 June 2026.
If you’re in Bandung, please don’t forget to stop by for a visit.
Also, see what else I was up to on this trip in my vlog down below.
