Life Through the Lens v.06

This will be my last film roll for a while, since I now have a sneaking suspicion that my camera has been somewhat damaged or corrupted, since most of the photos have looked heavily filtered for a while—although it’s possible I might’ve just picked the wrong films two consecutive times. This last roll I purchased was Anak Analog 400, a tailored film by Anak Analog—which is my go-to film development lab located in Bintaro, South Jakarta. Again, I was merely experimenting with a different sort of film without understanding where the difference lie. Apparently, though, this one results in a similar look as their Boen Jakarta, which is my previous roll. This time, though, the results turn out to be more to my liking.

These days I have been more careless about my analog camera. I used to be more precious about capturing moments with the film rolls, since I understand just how expensive and—let’s face it!—luxurious each roll is. However, lately I felt like nothing major was happening in my life and so lost the motivation to immortalise moments on film rolls. Instead, I decided to bring my camera with me only a couple times and went absolutely crazy with snapping shots the whole day. A lot of the photos didn’t take, sure, but these that did turned out to tell a story that you had to be there for to understand.

The photos above are from one weekend when the stars aligned and my dear friend Uli had free time the same time our mutual friend Mimin came to town. To be honest, nothing was exceptionally special about the day itself—we spent an entire afternoon lazing by the pool of Mimin’s apartment, just talking about our jobs, popculture and adulting, while gorging on a plethora of food. Nothing mind-blowing happened, mind you—probably the fact that it was my first time taking the commuter line again after years of absence—but it was truly peaceful and easy. I’m so glad I brought the analog camera with me.

Now, these last photos were all taken in Surabaya when my sister and I finally visited our family again after 5 years—except for the pool one, that’s our neighbourhood pool. Okay, yeah, now this is kind of a big deal. Initially, I really wanted to go during Eid holiday because we hadn’t been in ages. Unfortunately, my office’s holiday dates came in late and the ticket war for the train and/or plane was brutal—sorry, but I’m not about that life. Well, anyway, we decided to go at the beginning of June. Turns out this was a better decision, because the city was full of life—since the stores are open as usual, not closed for the holiday—and it wasn’t too crowded. You can read about our shenanigans there here and here.

So that’s it from my analog adventures for a while.
Hope to do more soon once I have a reason to dive into analog again!

Thank you so much for sticking around!

thanks for reading
