Take It Slow: Open for Pre-Order!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! Is that too self-absorbed to say? Perhaps, but it is a very special birthday this year, because a lot of things are happening today. As you can read from the title, today I am launching my book! Can you believe that? I WROTE A BOOK! AND DESIGNED IT! And now you can pre-order it! Not only that, MY WEBSITE IS LAUNCHED TODAY! It took me only ten years to finally do it. Isn’t that insane?

To celebrate my birthday, I thought I’d tell you a little bit about the book—how it started, what’s in it and why it should interest you. But, first, let me thank my contributors Nida and Mima, my boyfriend Agung and my sister Akita for helping me make this book a reality. You guys rock!

How It Started

This book started in 2020 and was originally made for my thesis project. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to make something that I can really put out in the world later on—something that truly matters and means a lot to me. Although it wasn’t my first idea, a book on ethical fashion it ended up being. I suppose my lecturers found it interesting, yet not widely explored enough, so they supported me with it.

Visually, I already knew that I’d want it to be an infographics book, filled with numerous illustrations made from scratch, that convey intriguing data on all things fast and slow fashion. I wanted it to cover the industry from top to bottom, from producers to consumers and beyond. And I wanted it to be specifically for Indonesia, as I see the supply gap for it.

As the time for my thesis defense drew nearer, people started to show interest in my book. Needless to say, that boosted my confidence way up. It made me feel like there could really be a demand for this book. That’s when I decided I would definitely put this book up for sale. Fast forward a year later, I finally collected enough will and courage to finish this book. Now, starting today, you can pre-order the book here.

About the Book

In short, the book is a 14.4 cm x 18 cm 200-page exemplar, printed in hardcover with book paper for the contents. It is comprised of 7 chapters, discussing topics from ethical processes of clothing, alternatives to retail therapy, tips on how to care for your clothes, slow fashion organisations in Indonesia and local slow fashion brands.

It is meant to be a good introductory piece for everyone who is new to this concept, but also with some information and tips that may interest those who are already more experienced in this whole slow fashion shebang. On top of that, it is created for the sole purpose of highlighting brands and materials that we have here in Indonesia—I feel like a lot of literatures on this for the west is in abundance, but not here.

How to Pre-Order

Since the book is self-published, it is only available by demand and in limited numbers. If you want one for yourself—or someone else—you should pre-order it on Tokopedia. Or, if you prefer, you can simply contact me personally and place your order directly.

Pre-Order is Open 20 October 2021 – 20 November 2021

My hope is, with this book, people will be more compelled to reevaluate how they see clothes in general and choose to support local businesses and artisans, should they buy any new clothes.
