This Time Last Year

Belated Eid Mubarak, everyone! How are you celebrating? Did you eat lots of unsolicited food and send greetings to distant family and friends? It is, as we know, yet another Eid amidst the global pandemic—which means not seeing a number of relatives and going home to the grandparents—but we’ve been through this before, so now we know better.

This time last year, we let spring pass by without so much as an acknowledgement by most people. As for me, in my personal life, I was knee-deep in my thesis project, trying out all sorts of local eateries and coffee shops, and grabbing all the ethical fashion clothes.

Since then, however, a lot has changed in my life—I mean “a lot” a lot. For instance, this year I’ve gained one more family—Agung‘s family. I’m spending the night over at their place as we speak. I’ve missed them so much this past month. Another thing that’s different is I managed to make some sorghum cookies for mini hampers, which I’d never done before—and Agung’s family apparently enjoys, much to my delight. Lastly, I’m being more responsible with my money now and looking at the future in using it. What a change, huh?

A few weeks ago, my sister told me that her friend has some clothes to give away—and she wanted me to have them. She knew I often blog about my clothes and somehow found that her old clothes would be suitable for me. It turns out: she was right. The pants you’re seeing in these photos are one of them—and I love them!

Since my weight has been going up and down the scale, I haven’t been comfortable with a pair of pants for the last couple of years. Most of my pants are too tight, although I cannot bid them farewell just yet. So a generous hand-me-down like this is but welcome.

Not only does it fit comfortably around my waist, with amazing cotton quality—I’m sure this couldn’t have been cheap—but it also has such a unique cut, being the baggiest pair I’ve ever worn. It’s so baggy that it looks more like a hakama than a pair of trousers—much to my delight. If I only has a kimono top to go with it, I’ll look like I’m ready to learn the art of kendo. Hey, maybe that’s what I’ll be for Halloween!
