Mix It Up a Notch: Book of Deer Vinyl Dress

If you’re an avid follower of this blog, you may know that one of my favourite brands is Book of Deer—who, sadly, now has changed their brand positioning to cater to children. Up to this point, I have acquired three items from their SS 2015 Country Kitchen collection—which is my favourite collection—but then there’s also this dress that I got off their SS 2014 Flower Child collection back in 2017. Eilidh Ho, the founder and designer of Book of Deer, describes this collection as “Shamelessly flowery and nostalgic” as it “retells the summer of love with a fantasy element.” There’s truly nothing like it.

There are so many reasons to love this dress. First of all, the cut is so dreamy. The cute chest details and the ribbon at the back are really hard to miss. They create a beautiful feminine touch that becomes unique once it is matched with the whimsical pattern. The pattern itself is very well done—it isn’t so overpowering that it is hard to pair with other clothing pieces, but distinct enough to capture attention. It is such a show-stealer—whenever I run into people wearing this dress, they always remark on its cute factor. Not to mention how comfortable it is, with its breezy cotton material and its pretty loose cut—not tight around the waist, yet flatteringly accentuating.

My favourite way to wear this dress is with a shirt or top underneath—it is meant to be a pinafore, after all—but I’d love to pair it more with dresses, outers and maybe on its own in the future. This one’s definitely a keeper and I hope to have it with me for decades to come.
