If there is an item of clothing that encompasses who I am so perfectly—all the intricacies and complexities of me—in one glance, I would say it is this autumnal jumper. It is by BRAVE SOUL and I purchased it from TK Maxx—way, way before I was aware of fast fashion and chose to champion slow fashion instead. It was one of those pieces that I bought without prior planning or intention—I just happened to be walking into a TK Maxx to window shop and stumbled upon this gorgeous piece. Although I wasn’t a jumper kind of person—and I’m still not, to be honest, I gravitate more towards cardigan/jacket–I just couldn’t resist the colour and pattern of this jumper and grabbed it almost straight away.
What I like most about this jumper is its classic pattern, using elements of winter like snowflakes and Scandinavian motifs, yet mixed with the warm colours of autumn. I’ve never seen such a combination before, and I fell instantly in love. The style is also pretty classic, with the rib-knit cuffs, hem and neckline, which makes it pretty easy to wear with almost anything. The oversized fit makes it really comfortable to wear and it fits me no matter what my size at the moment may be—which is why, I guess, it managed to stay in my wardrobe for 10 years without damage.
Despite its crowded pattern, this jumper may be one of the most versatile items in my wardrobe. As you can see, I have styled it with pants, shorts, skirts and even dresses—okay, one dress, but it still counts. No matter what time of year it is, whenever I wear it, I feel like being transported to autumn. My favourite way of styling it is having cute, statement collars peak through the neckline—preferably in a contrasting colour. Unfortunately, the fabric feels tad thick to be worn frequently and comfortably in a tropical country like Indonesia. Worry not, though! This piece is definitely here to stay.
