How is it the last day of May already? Tomorrow it’s June, which means spring has come and gone with people being confined to their own humble abode. Crazy, isn’t it?! Well, for me, in the tropics, we don’t really get spring or summer or what-have-you, but it’s pretty sad to think about all those blooming flowers going unnoticed by people in the northern hemisphere—although it may actually be a good thing for them.
Back when social distancing and self-quarantine first became a global thing in March, I never thought we would be cocooned inside for two months—despite knowing full well that’s what happened in Wuhan previously. I thought I’d never survive having this huge disruption to my daily life for so long, well, here I am two months later and I’m still surviving.
Aside from that, I’m also doing my thesis project in quarantine, which is both a blessing and a curse all on its own. It has made some parts more difficult and others a whole lot easier. But, hey, June is upon us and it’s my favourite month of the year—let all the birthdays commence!

With a new (forced) lifestyle, comes a new set of hobbies and interests. Some of my newly acquired hobbies include trying out different coffee shops every few days—thank the Lord for one-litre-bottle coffee delivery services in Indonesia! I’ve tried up to nine new places since we went into partial lockdown—as per the law in this godforsaken country—and it’s been really interesting tasting the same menu from various vendors. There’s also a mini-shopping spree from ethical fashion brands who are constantly having sales—this gorgeous tenun hairband from Noesa being the latest purchase. I’m all about supporting the locals, yo!
Lastly, of course, much like everyone else, I’ve gotten pretty attached to Netflix and/or Youtube. You might have seen the article I posted back in April, but that hasn’t even covered half of what I’ve been watching so far. Lately, I’m very, very into foreign, non-English-speaking films that you can find in plethora on said subscription service.
I’m intrigued to write a post on it soon, so if you’re interested, watch this space! No post next week, though, since it’s my second thesis hearing/presentation, wish me luck!
