I really thought Eid this year wouldn’t be so special. My parents went home to Semarang for the holiday, and since I got my holiday dates from work pretty late—which annoyed me to no end—and ticket prices were soaring, I thought I’d just stay in the capital. As far as going out of town and gathering with a large family, I’d probably go to Agung‘s place as I am used to doing in the past couple years. But, otherwise, my siblings and I would be left to our own devices—which is both liberating and so not exactly festive-like.
Growing up, I feel like Eid has somewhat changed for me. It used to be such a festive occasion, being surrounded by extended families, playing games and eating all the food. Lately, it has become more subdued—partly because of the pandemic too, though. Around a week or so before Eid, I had a little chat with our resident masseuse and, apparently, she felt the same way. Maybe the holiday really just isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be anymore. One thing I look forward to lately is going to visit Agung’s family.

The Power of Cute Clothes
At first, I wasn’t going to even write a post from Eid day—excuse my lethargy—but when I got dressed on d-day, I suddenly felt really empowered by the clothes I picked out and decided to wear. Sometimes looking cute gives you a certain super power, you know. This outfit, in particular, really made me feel good about myself. You see, these pants haven’t fit me for the past couple months or so, despite being one of my favourite pairs from my wardrobe. When I picked it out this morning to wear—crossing my fingers real tight, by the way—and it turned out to fit perfectly, relief and joy washed over me so much I thought I’d immortalise this fleeting moment before it’s gone again.

Another fun fact from this outfit: the scarf is from Bernadet Putri‘s first collection released in 2017. That Eid I wore it as a hijab and Bernadet was so surprised by my styling—being a non-Muslim herself, I don’t think she imagined her creation to be styled in a very Islamic way. However, when I first spotted this scarf at her booth, I knew straight away it would be the perfect design for Eid. I’ve been wearing it for the holiday several times ever since—you might’ve seen it last year and earlier this year as well. I wonder if I’m the one customer who consistently styles Bernadet’s item for Eid every year—and I hope it makes a lasting impression on her.
This year I’m bringing it back for a new styling to give it a fresh spin. I swear I love this scarf, although I don’t wear it too often. Sometimes I just don’t know how to fit it into the clothes and styles I tend to gravitate towards. Eid—and Ramadan, I guess—always seems like the perfect time to wear scarves. While my hair is still rather short, I thought I’d try it as a headband—which is usually my go-to scarf styling.

A Pawstive Celebration
Something that might have made this Eid more special than the years before is the existence of Bobon in our lives. If you didn’t know, Bobon—officially named Bonito—is this not-so-little kitty who’s been part of the Brilia household for almost a year now. She came to us a few days after Eid last year, so this Eid was the first one we got to experience together. How fun!
At first, we thought Ramadan with her around would be such a tough feat—she always asks for breakfast like clockwork. However, it turns out she is more compliant to our shifting schedules and didn’t fuss too much as we were devouring suhoor everyday. Such a good girl! We’re so glad to have her with us this Eid—adds more spirit to the house.
On top of that, Agung’s household also got a new addition to the family—although not officially adopted (yet)—which is a little tabby kitty. So far, we’ve called her Carrot and you can see her on my Instagram post. She is the cuddliest little girl, snuggling up to me while I slept on the sofa.
