Hello there, everyone! How are you doing? Life has been pretty hectic for me and Agung this past few weeks, so it’s been kind of tricky and exhausting to take photos and compose posts for this blog. If you’d indulge me, let me just use this chance to catch you up on things that’s been going on in our lives lately. Here are a few highlights of the past month in this new age. It’s somewhat unbelievable that I’m already a month into being 29. Let’s go!
Highlight of the Month
1. Preparing for the Press
As you know, on my birthday this year I launched my book Take It Slow. It is a self-published volume on all things slow fashion in Indonesia. Since its launching, orders have come pouring in—okay, maybe not pouring per se, but there have been some. And, while I am getting more and more excited about its printing as the date approaches—tomorrow’s the last day for pre-order, by the way—I’m also very anxious about it.
For the past month, I’ve also created several contents for its promotion, including some behind-the-scenes, that have kept me busy. Thankfully, they are very well received by the crowd. Honestly, though, I cannot wait for this whole thing to be over and for the book to finally be in your hands. Hope you’ll enjoy it!
2. Back to the Office
The pandemic has been dying down a little bit on this side of the world and we’ve started to come back working at the office again. It’s got its pros and cons, but I’m enjoying it so far. It’s still no 100%, mind you, but when I do go to the office, I’m making it a habit to still keep a healthy lifestyle in check. I tend to take the MRT—inner-city railway, in case you don’t know—to the nearest station. Afterwards, I would take a 15-minute walk to the office and vice versa on the way home.
In total, the distance makes up approximately 2 km, to and fro. It may not be much and I’m just walking normally, but it does give me a chance to stretch out my muscles and work out a little bit. Aside from that, I’m trying to listen to my stomach more closely and eat only in moderation. So that’s made me feel so good lately.
3. Collaborating with a Friend
When it comes to my book, I have a couple loyal supporters. One of them is my old friend Divina. She pushed me to publish the book and gave me insights and advice on how best. to approach the publication and distribution of it. Nearing the launch of it, too, she proposed the idea of collaborating to promote it on her channel. It was more than I’d expected from a friend! Needless to say, I was so excited.
We ended up having a very enlightening conversation on slow fashion in Indonesia—including the content of my book and further discussions. Not only on record, the part the went off-record was also incredibly inspiring. You can watch our discussion over on her IGTV here. Thank you so much, Vina!
4. Getting Back to Cooking
Earlier this month I stayed a night at Agung’s family house and we went shopping to cook something simple yet tasty. I haven’t cooked anything other than noodles in ages, so it was a nice opportunity to show off my kitchen skills. We cooked bok choy with garlic and sesame oil—which we had at Wancan before—and fried some tofu coated in flour—which used to be my go-to snacks in Germany. They were real delicious! Took us nearly no time at all, too.
Agung himself is not much of a cook—he barely ever turns on the stove, except to make noodles—but he was eager to learn from me. I’m not much of a cook myself either, but I have my way around the kitchen, as you may know. The next day, after I’d gone home, Agung told me that his Mom made the tofu recipe for dinner. It is very easy and tasty!
5. Celebrating in Style
Last week Agung and I celebrated our 23rd monthversary—yeah, I know, it’s way too cheesy for a pushing-30 to still celebrate something like that. It wasn’t the best day, weather-wise, and it got to our heads, but we both came in all dressed up without even agreeing to it beforehand. Honestly, Agung has never looked hotter. I also love how our vibes kind of contrast each other.
Agung has been swamped as hell lately, so even on a shitty, rainy day, it’s still very pleasant to spend time together. Our initial plan was crushed, no doubt, but we had a great time catching up on the All Too Well short movie, talking about our future plans and guessing the relationship status of couples at the other tables.
Current Obsessions
Listening: Maisie Peters
A few months ago I discovered this amazing artist and songwriter, only to later on find out that she’s actually Ed Sheeran’s protégé. She has such a way with words, which although often sounds awfully Gen Z, speaks very well to me as a millennial. Maisie’s songs really show how much of an old soul she is—mature and naïve at the same time. I love the ones that especially speak of keeping on good terms with past lovers—which kind of pushed me to reach out to mine too.
Recommended: Lunar Years, You To You, The List
Watching: Inside Job
From the mind of Alex Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls, comes a comedic series on the shadow government and the kitchen of all conspiracies. It is sooo good and literally the adult version of Gravity Falls! So much so that, in fact, I half expected Bill Cypher to jump out at any point in time—he didn’t, but I could have missed some easter eggs. The story is very self-aware of all pop-culture, taking bits and pieces from internet memes and widely known references. It also involves two of my favourite actors: Lizzy Caplan and Christian Slater.
