Lately, I feel like I’ve been going back and forth to Bandung a lot. After my last trip, I went back to Bandung earlier this month during Ramadan to visit my sister. If I’m being completely honest, I had a different agenda for that visit, but it kind of fell through and we ended up making it a sister quality-time weekend. We also just so happened to get our period at the same time, so it became a weekend filled with food and art and good old sisterly fun.
As usual, I took the coach to Bandung and arrived there around lunch time. My sister and I already made lunch plans ahead of time, so once I arrived she picked up me from the drop-off and away we went to our first food destination. It was located very nearby—in fact, we could’ve walked if we wanted to—so we got there literally in no time. And so our foodie adventure begins.

Cozy Noods in Dipati Ukur

Kedai Misuoa
Our first stop was this misoa shack located right at the corner of an unassuming street—we almost missed it the first time. When we arrived there, the place was literally empty except for the shopkeeper, that we had to ask whether or not the place was even open to begin with. I personally found the hidden-gem quality of the place pretty charming, especially with the shopkeeper’s indie taste in music—which just added a particular ambience to our lunch. We both ordered their Beef Misoa—white wheat-noodle soaked in a cozy broth topped with beef slices—with Peach Tea and Teh Solo. It was the perfect cozy lunch for the light rainy day that we were having. We had a blast catching up with each other’s lives and having the place all to ourselves. It wasn’t until maybe an hour later that people started coming in to order takeaways.

Cute Dessert in Braga

Braga Bakkerij
Afterwards, we made our way to Braga where we thought we were going to have dinner. We were pretty early, so I decided to bring my sister to this little Dutch-inspired bakery that I visited last time I was in town too. My sister had never been, and I wanted to introduce her to their heavenly tompouce. This time we ordered the Mango Jasmine Tompouce, which turned out to offer a subtly sweet taste with fresh undertones and little real chunks of mangoes on top and mixed in with the cream. It was really good! We also tried their Es Teh Stroberi and Kopsus Braga. Personally, I found the Kopsus to be pretty sweet still—despite already reducing the sugar level—but the tea was very refreshing.

I loved showing my sister the details of the place, since I admire the branding of this place so much. Aulia Akbar truly put a lot of heart into every corner of the place. I also knew my sister would greatly appreciate it. She took in every intricacies with as much care as I did the first time I was here.
We came here around tea time (3 PM) during Ramadan, so the place was pretty devoid of people. There were a couple families there when we arrived, but they soon moved on after finishing their dessert—and we had the place all to ourselves, save for the staff, of course.

Fancy Dinner in Cimenyan

There’s a funny story that comes with our next destination. The whole point of why I decided to still go to Bandung anyway, despite my plans falling out, was this dinner. My sister wanted to try Fork for the first time and proposed we go there for our dinner when I would come to visit. She went so far as to make a reservation at the restaurant, since it seems to be pretty popular and easily fully booked. She wasn’t wrong…except she made the reservation at the wrong branch. We thought we would be eating at their Braga branch—which is located in the heart of the town—but it turns out her reservation was for Forkwood in Cimenyan—which is located far, far up in the mountains. Thankfully, we managed to order a car to take us there as we laughed about the mishap.
To be honest, none of the food nor drinks stood out to me too much. All of them tasted okay—but with how much they cost, it feels a little overpriced. The view of this Cimenyan branch, though, was pretty spectacular. I wish we’d come here during the day, we could’ve probably seen a lot more. Our only fear was that we couldn’t get back down into town, since it felt pretty far away from everything. Thankfully, we managed to find our way back home.

Back to Braga for Treats & Bagels
Afterwards, we returned to Braga since it was the only place I could think of that would offer a lot of options and be open until rather late. I just didn’t want to call it a night just yet—and my sister agreed. After walking around for a little bit, we decided to stop by this little store where they sold traditional sweets and snacks.
They truly had a wide array of products to choose from, starting with cakes, cookies, chips, to local beverages and candies. I stopped by here with Iva too last time, if you remember, and we were also properly freaking out just as my sister and I did as we took in everything the store sold.
We ended up grabbing a set of Chong Fan, Kue Bugis Basah, Nagasari, Orange Jelly Candy and Sugar Candy. We ate the Cong Fan straight away—not gonna lie, it did not taste too fresh, but our tummies ended up fine—and kept the rest for tomorrow. The store closed soon after.

As if we had not gobbled up enough food that day, we made our last stop at this local coffee shop just along Braga Street. I was always intrigued by this place, since it seems to offer this run-down 1980s diner look, yet the name and its whole vibe felt very local. You could see the paint going dark and peeling all over the place, the air conditioner looked like it hasn’t been updated since 1979, and the chairs looked ready to fall apart.
As far as I could tell, it seems the place was popular for its photo booth. Then again, there were a lot of photo booths along Braga Street, and each one seems to be swarmed by the teens and young adults of Bandung.
All that being said, somehow they sold all sorts of bagels and was open past 9 PM. I was rightly freaking out over the wide selection of bagels, since I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many flavours in one place—and so cheap as well! Despite my nearly-bursting tummy, I decided to get one Garlic Cheese Bagel. It looked absolutely humble, but it taste nicer than I had anticipated. I’d love to come here again during the day sometime.

Well, that was the end of our foodie day—all we did was eat, huh? We didn’t really have anything else planned on this day, since had that reservation at the restaurant—and a good thing too, since we needed a little extra time to get to our actual reservation. As you will see in the next post, this will not be our last mishap of the weekend. That being said, both my sister and I could laugh about it now as we put it behind us. It really made for an interesting story, don’t you think?
