Around a month ago, my dear friend Koletta asked me if Agung and I would be interested in being the models for her (and her friends’) apparel brand, Wabi Sabi ID. They were going to launch a new product on 1 August, and they wanted to create a lookbook for the it with Agung and myself. Apparently, the team finds that Agung’s style and mine are perfect for the product they were about to launch. Personally, I’ve never been a model for any brand before—and to get to do it with someone I love too—so it was more than I could ask for. After discussing it with Agung, we accepted Koletta’s offer. That’s what we ended up doing last weekend.

Pick Your Dessert

Wabi Sabi ID is a brand co-owned by my friend Koletta, who is an amazing illustrator that I’ve known since uni. The brand started in early 2020 and have since rolled out 2 collections of products. Now they are launching their third collection, which is their first every button-up shirt called Trio Es!
As you can see on the photo here, the concept is pretty straightforward—’es’ in Indonesian means ‘ice’ or ‘iced mocktails’ and trio means, well, three. The shirt depicts three traditional mocktails from Indonesia—Es Campur, Es Cendol and Es Doger—all of which will really be refreshing for the perpetual summer of tropical Indonesia.
Much like the dessert depicted on it, the shirt itself is also perfect for the hot, summer weather of Jakarta—and anywhere in Indonesia, really. It is made out of lightweight cotton fabric that will keep you comfortable and breezy throughout the day. The print is also fully printed on the fabric, which adds a fun, colourful element to your outfits.

When Koletta first showed me the shirt, I was smitten with it straight away. The colour scheme is gorgeous and encapsulates the summer vibe perfectly. I love the huge print of the ices, making them really easy to identify yet also making them looking so artsy, it’s almost abstract. At that moment, I could see why Koletta would think this collection suits my style and Agung’s. This is literally the kind of clothes I would wear—and so would Agung, although under stricter occasions, I suppose. I can picture us wearing it to music festivals or to the ‘Barbie’ movie—or the beach, as Agung kept pointing out.
Once we put them on, though, I felt like I never wanted to take mine off. I now dub this my favourite shirt of the moment. What I didn’t expect was how good Agung would look in it as well—Koletta wasn’t kidding, she has pictured us right. It adds such a refreshing feel to his whole look and really accentuates his features. The comfort and the breeze that comes with that truly seals the deal for me.

Having Our Ice and Eating It Too
Since this is the first time the Wabi Sabi ID team has had to work together with a real-life couple, the whole brief for this photoshoot was simply—quoting Koletta—to “pretend you’re going on a date like usual, just with four people capturing your every move.” In fact, she sold it as a “free pre-wedding photos” (LOL). Ah, what a summer of love!
Koletta and the whole team was really kind and accommodating. They knew what our styles look like—thanks to blogging!—and could decide which of our clothes to wear to match the shirt. There was some back-and-forth, because I just wanted to get it right—thankfully, they were really nice about it and we figured out the outfit in the end.

We started out the “date” in Sarinah, since in this area even just the pavement is gorgeous. We made a beeline for the Bundaran HI Transjakarta bus stop—which has been newly revamped—to get to the top deck where there is a photo spot overlooking the city centre. Yeah, we played tourist for a day.
Then we ventured off to Blok M, which is one of the hottest hangout area for people our age. We also grabbed lunch in the process to kind of cool down and replenish ourselves. Afterwards, we came back to Sarinah to have the icy desserts on our shirts.
At the end of the day, the Wabi Sabi ID team surprised us by letting us keep the shirts we were wearing. Eep! Thank you so much! 🧡

This Trio Es shirt is now available for order on Wabi Sabi ID’s Tokopedia, so make sure to grab it while it lasts! They only print a small number of products per batch, while incorporating a pre-order system in their trade. They realise just how big an impact the fashion industry has on the environment and it is their commitment to avoid overproduction and reduce textile waste by producing small batches of products locally, made to order. They also encourage their consumers to consider their old items as well when styling pieces they buy from the brand. If that’s not a brand to look out for, I don’t know what is.
