Last year I was fortunate enough to discover and try out several new zero-waste products. Slowly but surely, I was transitioning to a fully zero-waste bathroom for all my self-care needs. You may have glimpsed that from the 3 Ways Deodorant and Dental Hygiene that I introduced previously, but there are still some others that I was very pleased with. Since they don’t really fit into the usual 3-way category, I thought I’d just share my first impression of them as a bundle. To be honest, one of them has been mentioned in a previous post, but I had more to say about it now that I’ve used it all up. Well, without further ado, here are a few things I’ve started using recently.

Liplapin Balm in Red Rose
Liplapin Balm in Red Rose

Bought: June 2021
How to use: Apply on the lips with your finger.
Pro: It comes in a metal container that makes it very handy to transport. The consistency is very soothing to prone-to-dry lips. The pigment is incredible, adding enough colour to the lips but not too thick. It looks very natural and the product lasts a long time—it’s been over 6 months, yet it hasn’t shown sign of running out.
Cons: It needs to be applied with one’s fingers, which could be repulsive for some people—especially now after the pandemic. When applied, it doesn’t last very long—especially after eating—so it needs be re-applied several times a day.
Where to buy: Liplapin, Ekko Store, etc.

La Natura Stick Deodorant
La Natura Stick Deodorant
Bought: June 2021
How to use: Apply on the pits with your finger or a wooden stick.
Pro: It’s very practical to apply and carry around. I thought it was a roll-on or something similar at first, but it works more like a glue stick—the bottom part can be elevated to reveal more deodorant. It lasts for a whole day when applied and the stick itself lasts for so long—6 months and still going strong. It doesn’t actually stop us from sweating—which is healthy—but it does give off a nice coconut-y scent.
Cons: The deodorant is less balmy and more on the dry side, which has become a problem for my skin. It dries my pit and often triggers severe itchy sensations, leading eventually to scratch marks that sting.

Segara Naturals Tamanumi Face Wash
Segara Naturals Tamanumi Face Wash

Bought: July 2021 (first), December 2021 (fourth)
How to use: Lather straight on your face or apply it to your face with your fingers when it has gone soft.
Pro: The initial consistency is rather hard and almost scrub-like, making it very easy to apply. It also makes the skin feel clean and fresh, while keeping an optimal level of moisture—perfect for a prone-to-dry skin. Since it is a bar, it is very handy to take anywhere.
Cons: The size is rather small, so it lasts for only 1-2 months at a time. The consistency also becomes less solid the more you use it—as it comes in contact with water—and ending up turning into a cream, which is a little trickier and more wasteful to apply.

Segara Naturals Tooth Powder
Segara Naturals Tooth Powder
Bought: August 2021 (first), December 2021 (second)
How to use: Rinse your toothbrush with water, pour some of the powder on it and brush your teeth.
Pro: It’s very practical to apply and carry around. When brushed, it doesn’t produce any foam, which can be soothing—since it feels very natural. It also leaves a distinct feeling of freshness and minty sensation afterwards. One bottle lasts a very long time—spanning of around 4 months—which is impressive, considering its small size. It also doesn’t cost too much for what it is.
Cons: Pouring the powder onto the toothbrush is immensely tricky, leading to wasting some in the process. It does not contain any whitening agent, which may cause you to feel like your teeth aren’t clean since they’re not sparkling white. The powder may clump up inside the bottle.

Jinawi Shampoo Bar
Jinawi Shampoo Bar

Bought: September 2021 (first), December 2021 (second)
How to use: Lather straight away or apply with your hands on your hair.
Pro: Super practical to apply and carry around, since it comes in bar form. Even more practical still after it runs out—no bottle to wash. It is also not wasteful, like the usual liquid shampoo that drips all over the place. It surprisingly lasts quite a long time—3 months! Effect-wise, it is also very good for my hair—it doesn’t cause dandruff or to become greasy very quickly.
Cons: Over time, the consistency deteriorates, causing it scatter everywhere. This prevents me from being able to lather it on my hair straight away, which is unfortunate. It also sometimes leaves bits and pieces of leaves in my hair—one of its ingredients—if I’m not careful.

A zero waste lifestyle is always something I’m transitioning towards. I believe when it comes to improving yourself, there is no such thing as being too late—in fact, I don’t think we can ever stop being better. If you read my first ever post on zero waste lifestyle, you can see there were still a lot I didn’t know. So, it’s okay to do this imperfectly and take it one step at a time. The world doesn’t need perfection, it needs progress and people who are willing to do what it takes to make it. If I can do it, you can do it too! Feel free to check out the eco conscious section of this blog for more info and tips on creating minimal impact on the earth.
As always, if you want to discuss or have any further inquiries,
